Body found in downtown Elk City identified

A body that was discovered near the Elk City Carnegie Library Monday morning, Feb. 15, has been identified as that of 18-year-old Johnathan Mathew Grinager of Elk City. Police say that identification was made based on an a photo ID found at the scene.
Police believe the teen likely died from an accidental overdose while "huffing" freon from the air-conditioning unit at the library.
Evidence at the scene and a witness statement seemed to support that theory, police said. However, a final determination will not be made until an autopsy report is received from the State Medical Examiner's office.
Grinager's body was discovered by a passerby at about 10 a.m. He was lying on the ground between the library and the building to the east. Read the complete story in this week's Elk Citian.
